And What of the Human Mind? / lesson 8

Updated: May 27, 2021

Perhaps the most critical instance of seeking balance (evaluation of contrasts) and of finding a center of equilibrium in a natural, physical system surfaces when analyzing the detailed nature of biological cells which are classified as being either Eukaryotic or Prokaryotic in description:

Eukaryotic cells contain membrane-bound organelles, such as the nucleus, while prokaryotic cells do not. Differences in cellular structure of prokaryotes and eukaryotes include the presence of mitochondria and chloroplasts, the cell wall, and the structure of chromosomal DNA.

In both cell types protein chains of repetitive structure generically called biopolymers perform critical functions in the cell:

"They (biopolymers) conduct various processes inside and outside cells and organisms, with a functionality ranging from storage of information to stabilization, protection, shaping, transport, cellular division, or movement of whole organisms. Within the plethora of biopolymers, the most sophisticated group is of proteinaceous origin"

Notice the evolving centering or winding of protein structure in the above image. Eukaryotic cells are considered to be more evolved than prokaryotic cells and are what compose the brain matter of all organisms.

Eukaryotic cells are "hosts" to numerous micro cellular structures called microtubules. Microtubules are helix shaped biopolymers of the protein tubulin.

Microtubules are major components of the cytoskeleton (cellular structure). They are found in all eukaryotic cells, and they are involved in mitosis, cell motility, intracellular transport, and maintenance of cell shape. Microtubules are composed of alpha- and beta-tubulin subunits assembled into linear protofilaments:

Notice that microtubules are composed of two subunits of tubulin (alpha and beta) and further organize in groups of threes...

The final takeaway from this lesson:

  1. Brain cells are structured and organized by helix shaped entities called microtubules - center seeking physical entities that evaluate contrasts by means of two subunits.

  2. Consciousness as described by Perennial Philosophy is defined as an active process of comparing two contrasting elements of experience to find an optimum center of awareness.

  3. Accordingly, the Turning Point hypothesizes that the human brain and thus, the human experience, is a subset of a greater, base consciousness (the superstratum) that is physically sampled by the action of microtubules in the brain (and body for that matter) to create an individual's (a CEU's) modality of awareness. The brain in metaphor is best described as an antenna or gateway that mediates and actualizes individuated consciousness into the physical realm - the physiostratum. In quantum mechanical terms, the action of the brain (the mesostratum) actively and periodically collapses untold numbers of wave functions (representative of the superstratum) to interact in the physiostratum.

Therefore, a CEU (Consciousness Exploration Unit = a conscious biological organism i.e. a human) is thought in some measure to create its own unique reality subject to the rules or natural organization of the superstratum...
